I’ve studied Tarot since I was a young girl. Throughout the years I’ve found myself going in and out of practicing. This year is already proving clarity is in the cards.

I’ve recently started studying Palmistry and Gaelic Runes.

Every Thursday I work from home. When the warm afternoon sun hits my bedroom window, my sweet Ginger lays down for her mid-day nap. We’ll sometimes go on hikes in Woodside. She can usually be found following me around. No companionship is more unconditional than that between human and pup.

Cars provide the possibility of freedom and exploration. Henry Ford’s assembly line revolutionized the production of motor vehicles and forever changed the consumer industry. In The Great Gatsby, the motif of cars highlights social status, wealth, fame, and power:

"It was a rich cream colour, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hat-boxes and supper-boxes and tool-boxes, and terraced with a labyrinth of wind-shields that mirrored a dozen suns. ...behind many layers of glass in a sort of green leather conservatory."

“The straw seats of the car hovered on the edge of combustion; the woman next to me perspired delicately for a while into her white shirtwaist, and then, as her newspaper dampened under her fingers, lapsed despairingly into deep heat with a desolate cry."

I had the pleasure of shooting @alex.is.storm in Israel. She's a powerful Jewish, West Indian, African American woman who exudes an innocent confidence. I was first drawn to Storm when I heard her voice singing a sweet harmony by En Vogue on the streets of Tel Aviv. It took us a few encounters to start talking photos, but once we did we immediately fell into a state of trust. Storm was so open-minded during our creative process and it didn't take long for the shutter to open and close. Her control and freeness in her form is inspiring to witness. She admires Grace Jones for her fearlessness, individuality, and fierceness.

Joshua Tree is a uniquely desolate place stunned by a paradox of dead life living. The desert air is dry and cold in the winter. Vast chilling gusts run through the carefully stacked rock mountains. My friends and I channeled our inner big horn sheep and galloped alongside and within the rocks that barely let a body brush through. We journeyed every which way through nature’s walls. May this land recover from the inexcusable actions undergone in recent weeks and, may the soil replenish with nutrients for all centuries to come.

Yad Vashem translates from Hebrew as “a monument and a name.”

The powerful architecture, the simplistic beauty of remembrance, and the cruel reality of history resides in an underground structure in the mountains of Jerusalem.

When you first arrive, you see rows of tall, lush trees in honor of the Righteous Among the Nations. These trees represent the non-Jews who helped protect and save thousands of lives.

The historically powerful museum rests underneath the roots of these trees. In some Jewish traditions, when a life is lost, a tree is planted. The Tree of Knowledge of good and evil established a connection between man and trees. They’re inextricable. The Tree of Life symbolizes immortality.

One encounters the lives of so many different individuals living all over Europe. Individuals of different nationalities, artistries, social classes, and philosophies. The common thread: they’re all Jewish narratives.

When I arrived at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv from San Francisco, I immediately hopped on a bus (it’s 1:30 am) and headed to the most northern point of Israel (about a 2 1/2 hour drive). It was dark. It was rainy. And it was cold. I hardly slept that night. The rain drops rhythmically hit the iron awning around my room. It sounded beautiful. I felt peaceful. Once I heard the rain settle down, I grabbed my camera and headed outside for a short morning walk.

Tzfat is the birthplace of Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism).

Head up the windy roads lined with lush trees and you’ll arrive in the mountains of Northern Galilee. The buildings and cobble stone pathways are ornamented with beautiful blue paint. In Judaism, the color blue signifies divinity, or holiness because it’s the color of the sky and the ocean. It’s the midway point between black and white. Arab and Jewish people alike will sometimes paint a blue streak above their doorposts to protect against the evil eye.

Pushkar is an incredible place surrounded by mountains and rolling hills. Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe in Hindu mythology, spotted the demon Vajranabha trying to kill his children. He slay the demon with his weapon, the lotus flower. During the battle lotus petals began to fall from Brahma’s hands and onto earth creating three lakes.

Pushkar Lake is a holy site with energies that will mystify all things empirical. The blessing of having traveled to a magical place like Pushkar will forever keep me humble.
